Dan began his career in the foreign exchange and money markets. He enjoyed fifteen years of highly successful derivative trading and brokerage experience for a number of major banks and financial institutions both overseas and in Australia.
In 1999 he switched his talents to the emerging energy markets, helping Tullett and Tokyo money brokers establish an electricity derivatives and green energy desk in Sydney. A year later he returned to trading with International Power Australia, the country’s largest private power producer, where he filled the role of Energy Trading Manager. Dan was responsible for hedging the output of the company’s generation assets, overseeing the efficient bidding and dispatch of plant and managing the array of proprietary trading books. During this time he was voted ‘Trader of the Year’ by a Reuter’s poll of Australian electricity traders.
In 2003, Dan left International Power to gain more experience in offshore energy markets. In London he worked for Tradition Financial Services, on the Coal Derivatives Desk. There he gained a valuable insight into the fast growing global coal market and the booming freight derivatives business.
Prior to opening the Sydney Office for NGeS in March 2005, Dan provided consultancy services to the market and established a strong reputation for innovative advice to help generators, retailers, banks and other financial institutions to gain a broader understanding of the derivatives sector of the energy markets.
Dan holds a Batchelor of Commerce degree from University College Dublin and a Masters of Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia
