A year after releasing a discussion paper on voluntary carbon offsets, the Rudd Government has issued a National Carbon Offset Standard that differs markedly from the draft version.

The standard has two main aims - to provide guidance to consumers and businesses wanting to ensure offsets they buy on the voluntary carbon market are legitimate and to provide them with a way of checking or demonstrating the credibility of any 'carbon neutral' claims.
